Grosse étape aujourd'hui car il faut remonter vers la maison. Donc pas le choix il va falloir faire un peu d'autoroute. Néanmoins on va quand même essayer d'optimiser pour avoir de jolies routes. Notre cible du jour c'est donc le massif des Bauges qui va permettre de connecter la vallée de la Maurienne avec le pays de Bresse.
Vallée de la Maurienne vraiment impressionnant de voir l'impact de l'activité humaine et industrielle dans cette vallée. En ce moment les infrastructures pour le tunnel Lyon Turin prennent beaucoup de place.
Nous la quittons par le col du frêne vraiment très sympa et qui débouche dans une belle vallée en plateau qui descend vers Châtelard où nous faisons le ravitaillement pour le midi.
Nous rejoignons la vallée de l'Ain que nous traversons à Seyssel par un joli pont suspendu. C'est aussi le point de départ du col de la biche une incroyable découverte. C'est superbe. Une belle montée bien raide débouche sur un alpage ou nous déjeunons sur l'herbe.
Puis malheureusement il a bien fallu se résoudre à 450 bornes d'autoroute.
Agrémentés d'une bonne pluie entre le Morvan et Auxerre.
Heureusement on a Fini par les belles départementales de la Beauce pour rejoindre nos spéciales en vallée de Chevreuse.
Big leg today as we need to start heading back home. So no way around it, we'll have to swallow some highway miles. Still, we're going to optimize the route to keep things interesting with some great roads. Our target for the day is the Bauges massif, connecting the Maurienne Valley with the Bresse region.
Maurienne Valley: truly striking to see the sheer impact of human and industrial activity carved into this valley. Right now, the infrastructure work for the Lyon-Turin tunnel is taking up a massive amount of space.
We leave it behind via the Col du Frêne—a really fantastic climb that opens up onto a beautiful plateau valley leading down to Le Châtelard, where we stock up for lunch.
We then rejoin the Ain Valley, crossing it at Seyssel via a lovely suspension bridge. That’s also the launchpad for the Col de la Biche—an absolute gem of a discovery. Stunning road. A steep, proper climb opens up to a high alpine pasture where we enjoy a picnic on the grass.
Then, unfortunately, reality set in: 450 km of highway to get through.
Complete with a solid downpour between the Morvan region and Auxerre.
Luckily, we wrapped up the ride on the beautiful backroads of the Beauce before hitting our favorite local twisties in the Chevreuse Valley!
