A lake is always a pleasure. Riding in the cool of the morning on the shady side of the cliff along the ledge road—it doesn't get much better than this, does it?
After the lake, we cross the lovely Bugey region. The roads there are absolute biker terrain—tailor-made for anyone who loves a fast, fluid flow. As luck would have it, both myself and the water-cooled flat twin live for a fast, fluid flow. At Nantua, we connect with the southern Jura, which takes us all the way to Chalon-sur-Saône where, unfortunately, we had to jump on the A6 highway to push north. Fortunately, the final 100 km are carved through the Gâtinais countryside before bringing us home to the Yvelines forest.
Now, all that's left to do is scrape off the bugs!
58 hours in the saddle for 4,451 km, with an overall average speed of 76 km/h and a fuel consumption of 5.7 liters/100 km. Both metrics clearly reflect the heavy highway nature of the leg heading up from Italy.
