25 LaDiag J9 la route des cols
The classic lineup for today. Allos, Vars, Izoard, Lautaret, Galibier. Could be worse, right?
Either way, the getaway is a total chore—leaving Marseille and hitting the highway toward Aix is packed and stressful. But before long, we find ourselves on far more enjoyable roads heading toward Digne-les-Bains, even if there's more traffic than back in May.
From that point on, it’s absolute bliss. Effortlessly, we tackle Allos—as technical and dizzying as ever—then Vars, more open and fast-paced with a insane view down over the Ubaye Valley, followed by Izoard and its incredible Casse Déserte, before dropping right back into the Briançon bottleneck.
Before that, though, we took a detour to explore a charming little dead-end valley tucked behind Cervières—an absolute gem.
Briançon was unavoidable; we had to fuel up before the grand finale. Lautaret and Galibier under the breathtaking light of a late summer afternoon. Honestly, one of the finest motorcycle and mountain experiences in recent memory. Though as for "motorcycling," I completely put that aside—we just cruised along at a snail's pace, taking in every bit of the scenery.
Apart from a scraping footpeg, who would've noticed the difference?

25 LaDiag J4 de l'Aubrac aux Alpes de Haute-Provence en passant par l'Ardèche et le Ventoux
Apart from hitting 40°C and spending the entire morning riding straight into the blazing sun, the rest of this leg was pure biking paradise—where not a single, solitary mile was wasted! 340 km of pure bliss carved into pristine asphalt and sweeping curves. Absolutely incredible!
In the end, very few photos were taken, mainly because every single pull-over guaranteed losing two liters of sweat. But man, did we gorge ourselves on stunning scenery! Imagine the Aubrac, the Ardèche, the Rhône Valley, capped off by the Ventoux in all its majesty.
There was a red severe thunderstorm warning today, which only made the spectacle all the more grand. Riding up the Ventoux is a full-on experience every single time. Truly one of a kind. Today was 40°C at the bottom, 22°C at the summit with the storm rolling in.
The stretch between the Ventoux and Forcalquier, our overnight stop, was simply brilliant. Fast-flowing roads, picture-perfect Provençal landscapes, and us pinning the throttle between storm clouds. We somehow made it back bone-dry, but it was a razor-thin call!

25 LaDiag J3 Auvergne à gogo
Today's theme is Auvergne! From Murol to Laguiole, the motorcycle playground is an endless stretch of twisties set against dreamlike landscapes.
We kicked off with the magic square: Croix Morand, Mont-Dore, Croix Robert. This time, I rode down the hill climb course. A great excuse to take it easy, because going uphill, I get carried away every single time. There are plenty of people around—August obliges. But as we pushed southwest, we rediscovered nearly deserted roads and valleys. Take Montboudif, for instance: a village world-famous for being the birthplace of Georges Pompidou.
After a picnic on the grass along the climb up Puy Mary, we earned our trophy at the summit. However, it was far too hot, so I decided to shave off a bit of the ride—at 35°C, it would have been a slog.
Still, we carved up some incredible roads on the way to Laguiole, including the spectacular Truyère Gorges.
Just before rolling in, a sudden thunderstorm slammed us, dropping the temperature from 33°C to 19°C in a matter of seconds, complete with a healthy dose of hail pelting the helmet.
We capped off the day with an improbable evening in a chic bistronomic restaurant in Laguiole!

25 LaDiag J2 direction l'Auvergne et Murol trop chaud 37,°C
After a lovely stay at La Varenne, a charming B&B in Monthou-sur-Cher, we set off heading south-southeast along a route brand new to us. It really was the start of a diagonal cross-country line we never would have taken had we not shifted west yesterday.
All day long, the road was top, top, top notch.
On the flip side, with temperatures hitting up to 37°C, it was a real struggle! As a result, not many photos were taken, since every single stop meant a bath of sweat.
Definitely worth doing again under cooler, more pleasant conditions!

25 LaDiag J1 courte traversée de la Beauce et de la Sologne
We start off with a half-day ride.
Today, all we have to do is leave the Chevreuse Valley, head over to Chalo-Saint-Mars, and cross the Beauce. The Beauce is as long and flat as ever. Then comes the Loire crossing, and the Sologne forest welcomes us. Long straightaways punctuated by a few villages like La Ferté-Saint-Aubin, where we take a refreshing break.
Tonight, we're staying with a former colleague who runs a B&B in Monthou-sur-Cher.
